My prom words were "invisibility" and "surprise". I knew I didn't want to have something just be invisible, that seemed a little too simple. I started thinking about camouflage in animals, as it makes them invisible in a way. I thought about moths specifically, and their intricate wing patterns. I did some quick sketches in my sketchbook to explore those patterns against a tree bark texture. I took a break from that and did some other exploration sketches of some other characters. I looked at a bunch of different images of moths and moth larvae and found that a lot of moth larvae have these fuzzy little hairs and antenna which would be great for secondary action. As a touch of fantasy, I sketched out this spunky little fairy character. I quite enjoyed how simple and expensive she was, and I really liked the idea of her having some cute interactions with the baby moth.
