Working From Reference

Image
This one is a little lat because I have to leave for a tutorial halfway through some of ur animation session and I totally missed this exercise! I did have time to complete it this weekend though so I should be all good. For the reference movement, I used this snippet: https://www.bodiesinmotion.photo/motions/1917 I thought the tutu was super fun and I wanted to keep it for the stylized version, so I sketched up this little deer ballerina character.  I was quite happy with her, so I went ahead and completed the stylized sequence. I had the sequence I had already animated set underneath while I worked so I could have my own guideline for things like the ground line, height, etc.

Keyframes with a Partner

Because my partner, Louis, was working traditionally and I was working digitally, I traced over each of his keyframes for a more cohesive final sequence. I also made the lines a bit darker in Premiere because they looked really light on the exported video.  Louis and I both decided on 4 keyframes each. This one is the original, where you can really see where the keyframes are.

Walk Cycles

Image
I did this first cycle as a test, just to get the basic motion of it. It's less than 12 frames, but I felt that I understood the walk movement well enough to start playing with it. The top one was done in reference to one of the examples within the lecture video. The bottom one was done without reference. I wanted to try and make a very loose, cartoony walk. After all of those sketches, I decided to try my hand at a more finished, colored walk cycle. Using a simplified version of one of my own personal characters, I started with a very loose sketch of her body. After I had the base, I duplicated it so that I could mess around with the secondary actions (hair, shirt, sword) without messing up what I already had. I repeated this for the line work, and then again for the color. I'm very proud of how this one came out! I have a habit of leaving my work at just the sketch, so I'm glad I pushed myself to fully line and color one of my animations.
