I didn't have as clear of a story idea for this prompt as I did for the good coffee. After one of the sessions, Alan had made a comment about animating in the stye of my quick pen studies. That comment is what started me going on this prompt. I had a lot of fun drawing in this style, and I quite like the sketchy, "unfinished" look that I've seen in animation before. I started playing around with some character designs in that loose, sketchy style. I was drawn the the puffy jacket and headphones it seams. I feel like the puffy jacket has the potential to be very expressive, and I thought the idea of the character jamming out in the coffee shop with these chunky headphones would set op their "good day" vibes quite nicely. I still need to plan out the plot for this one, which hopefully I'll be able to get done over the weekend. From there on, I'll probably start with keyframes and plug away on the in-betweens after that.

The first prompt I thought about was 'a character in a bad mood has a good cup of coffee". I really liked the idea of showing why the character was in a bad mood, as a lead up to the good cup of coffee. I did these really rough thumbnail storyboards to hash out the actions. For the character, I was thinking southing along these lines. I was drawn to the idea of a very graphic, blocky sort of look. Another reason I went in this direction was because of the simpler shapes. I had the idea of the character going very sharp and angular when mad, and then turning round and soft after drinking the coffee, just as another detail to signify emotion. Based on the quick thumbnails, I put together an animatic. I played around with the timing and pauses to get a better feel for the pace of the short. It might change a l...
