Animation 2A - Good Cup of Coffee

The first prompt I thought about was 'a character in a bad mood has a good cup of coffee".

I really liked the idea of showing why the character was in a bad mood, as a lead up to the good cup of coffee. I did these really rough thumbnail storyboards to hash out the actions.

For the character, I was thinking southing along these lines. I was drawn to the idea of a very graphic, blocky sort of look. That way I could focus on the silhouette and the action rather that be bogged down with heavy detail. Plus, I think this style would give the short a very fun look. Another reason I went in this direction was because of the simpler shapes. I had the idea of the character going very sharp and angular when mad, and then turning round and soft after drinking the coffee, just as another detail to signify emotion.

Based on the quick thumbnails, I put together an animatic. I played around with the timing and pauses to get a better feel for the pace of the short. It might change a little as I animate, but it should serve well for a baseline to work off of. I've started in on the animating with keyframes, so now the plan is to just work away and tweak as I need until it's finished.
